On the early morning of Thursday, January 4, 2024, the Lafayette Fire Department responded to Santa Rosa Apartment Complex on Merchants Boulevard in Lafayette near Verot School and West Pinhook roads for a fire report.
Upon arrival, firefighters saw flames stemming from an upstairs unit.
The fire quickly spread killing an innocent dog and causing damage to nearby units.
An investigation determined that 25-years-old JASMINE NOLAN (pictured), intentionally set the fire in the bathroom of her apartment. The Lafayette Fire Department did not disclose why NOLAN might have done it.
According to the press release by the Lafayette Fire Department and obtained by Voice For Us, NOLAN turned herself in and was booked into the Lafayette Parish Correctional Center on one count of aggravated cruelty to animals and twelve counts of aggravated arson.
Online records show that NOLAN was released after posting bond.
I have emailed the Lafayette Fire Department to inquire about the Voiceless Victim but the only information available is that the dog was 9 years old and he/she had been adopted from a local shelter. If I hear back from the sheriff’s office with information about the dog, I will post an update.
The fire remains under investigation.
I took the liberty of naming the Voiceless Victim Rainbow for the tribute image. Should his/her given name be made public, I will rectify it accordingly.
