On Thursday, November 17, 2022, Judge Shelly D. Dick of the Central Louisiana District Court sentenced 35-years-old AQUINTAS KANTRELL SINGLETON (pictured, via Facebook), of Baton Rouge, to only twelve months and one day in prison “for possessing dogs for the purpose of using them in an animal fighting venture,” according to the U.S. Department of Justice.
SINGLETON appeared before judge Dick on July 12, 2022, when he pleaded guilty to an Animal Welfare Act crime involving the possession of seventeen dogs for use in an animal fighting venture.
As indicated in a press release by the U.S. Department of Justice, court documents show that law enforcement agents became aware of SINGLETON’s involvement in an interstate dogfighting ring in 2017.
Court-authorized wiretaps document that beginning in the summer of 2017, SINGLETON “had various telephone conversations with other dogfighters to discuss the results of fights held in Louisiana and Georgia. They also discussed upcoming matches and the stakes they would wager in those dogfights.”
According to the news release, the details of these conversations included strategies and plans for how to breed, market, house, train and prepare dogs for dogfights. These calls and other information acquired, led law enforcement agents to expand their investigation.
On October 24, 2017, officials searched SINGLETON’s property and discovered seventeen Pitbull-type dogs.
As stated in the release, the dogs “were kept separated from one another and restrained with heavy chains and weighted dog collars, or kept in rudimentary cages. Many of the dogs exhibited scars or fresh wounds consistent with dogfighting. Agents found a file box containing breed information, breeding papers, breed magazines, and dog registration papers.”
Additionally, officials found Dexamethasone (a diuretic used to achieve proper weight in preparation for the dogfights) and other dogfighting paraphernalia.
Special Agent in Charge Douglas A. Williams Jr. of the FBI New Orleans Field Office said: “Animal cruelty is a heinous crime that deserves our ultimate condemnation and serious legal consequences for those who engage in it for ‘sport’ and/or profit. Today’s sentencing should serve as a reminder to those like Mr. Aquintas Singleton who commit such crimes, that they will be held accountable.”
I said it before and I will say it again. Individuals like AQUINTAS KANTRELL SINGLETON, who make easy, bloody, dishonest money at the expense of innocent animals, are society’s vomit.
The hypocrisy of subjects like SINGLETON who demand respect for their life is shocking!
SINGLETON, you took innocent, defenseless, helpless dogs and put them against each other against their own will just so that you could make some bucks because you are too ignorant to get a proper and respectful employment!
Last, but most definitely not least, any judge who hands down a sentence as ridiculous as the one you have received is no better than you!
