The Boston Police Department arrested 33-year-old WILLIAM CHAZ COBB (pictured).
Police said that on the evening of July 9, 2024, officers responded to the area of 69 Edgewater Drive after receiving a call about a moving van that had been abandoned for weeks and a foul smell coming from it.
According to the Department’s press release, upon arrival, officers located a U-Haul with a terrible smell coming from it. When officers opened the van, they discovered the bodies of three dogs and bugs.
Animal Control was called in to remove the deceased dogs and the responding ACO said the dogs were “bloated” in the sweltering van. The ACO noted temperatures in Boston climbed 90 degrees that week.
According to the police report, authorities responded to the same vehicle on July 2, 2024, and found six dogs inside the running van.
As a result of the investigation into the incident, Dorchester District Court issued a warrant for COBB’s arrest for three counts of animal cruelty.
Members of the Boston Police Youth Violence Strike Force and the Massachusetts State Police Gang Unit located COBB on July 12, 2024, in the area of 148 Mediterranean Drive. COBB was taken into custody and booked into Suffolk County Jail. He later appeared in Dorchester District Court and pleaded not guilty to the charges.
COBB is expected back in Court in September 2024.
