~ Update: May 31, 2023:
The Forsyth County Sheriff's Office tells me that Blondie was a Pitbull mix.
I also learned that WARREN “did not show up for his first appearance in court yesterday, and so an order for arrest has been issued for him.”
~ Original story:
The Forsyth County Sheriff's Office announced the arrest of 51-years-old ELSON DITREZ WARREN (pictured) for the murder of his dog named Blondie.
On May 7, 2023, the Winston-Salem Police Department received a call about a domestic incident between a man and a woman at a home on Petree Road. Police officers then contacted the Forsyth County Sheriff's Office Animal Services Division (ASD) for assistance with a suspected case of animal cruelty.
When ASD officers arrived at the scene, they found WARREN covered in blood and Blondie’s lifeless body lying on the back porch.
In a press release, the Forsyth County Sheriff's Office said, “Multiple areas on the back porch were blood stained, and when the man was asked about the blood on him, he responded that it was his own blood.”
According to the release, the woman on scene stated she had not seen WARREN “harming Blondie during the domestic incident.”
Multiple eyewitnesses, however, gave officers a different version of the facts and stated that they saw WARREN “not only yelling at Blondie but also beating her against the railing of the back porch.”
The release goes on to say that WARREN denied any involvement in Blondie’s death and asked deputies to find her killer.
Blondie’s body was seized by the Deputies and taken to the State laboratory for a necropsy to determine the official cause of her death.
As stated in the release, results showed that “Blondie died of severe blunt force trauma with numerous traumatic injuries to her back and spinal cord, as well as multiple fractures to her head, face, and jaw. Other significant findings included rib fractures with pulmonary lacerations, with hemorrhaging and lacerations to the liver.”
On May 26, 2023, WARREN was arrested and charged with one felony count of animal cruelty.
According to the sheriff’s office, WARREN appeared before the magistrate where he received a secured bond of $2,500. His preliminary court date was set for the morning of Tuesday, May 30, 2023, at the Forsyth County Hall of Justice. I was not able to find his court records but I will send out a few emails to learn the outcome.
Had Blondie been a person, WARREN would be facing murder charges!
Lawmakers need to be aware that the problem is right there, in the names of the offenses and the way they are handled and tried.
If the same offense is perpetrated on a person or an animal, the legal consequences should be exactly the same!
WARREN savagely beat a defenseless living being and as far as I am concerned, individuals like him should not even be entitled to be defended in a court of law. After their arrest they should be thrown and slammed in a dark cell without water, food or a bed and wait for their useless, pathetic, and insignificant life to expire!!!!
